Poondu Kali | Velluli Sangati | Garlic halwa Legiyam| Gastric problem reliever | Postpartum must have
Poondu Kali is one of the most given dish after delivery for mothers in South India. This is yet another tasty healthy dish. Post delivery, every alternate day, they give different medicinal Kali or legiyam; this is also given among them.
Health Benefits of taking this dish:
- Helps in relieving gastric problems.
- Anti-inflammatory and natural antioxidant food.
- This is given to mothers post delivery after some days, as it increases breastmilk secretion.
- This is given to avoid gastricfc problem for both mom and baby.
Required ingredients:
Indian Garlic / Nattu poondu – 100g
Sesame oil / Nallaennai – 50ml
Milk – 200ml
Palm Jaggery – 150g
Water – 200ml
Preparation Method:
- Pour the milk in the kadai and add garlic in it.
- Add 100ml water into it.
- Cook in low medium heat until garlic is fully cooked and all milk is absorbed.
- Mash the cooked garlic with a ladle / potato masher.
- Dissolve the palm jaggery in 100ml water.
- Melt the jaggery water and filter to remove any impuries in jaggery.
- Add this jaggery syrup to mashed garlic and continue cooking.
- After half of the syrup is reduced, add sesame oil.
- Continue stiring till oil gets absorbed.
- When the Kali is little loose, turn off the flame.
- When it cools down, it gets tighten little.
- Transfer to an airtight container.
For regular intake, 1 tsp for kids and 1 tbsp for adults would be sufficient.
But, this is given mainly for newly delivered mothers; They are given this Kali 2 to 3 times a day for 1 or 2 days.
