Pal Kozhukattai | South indian rice sweet


Pal Kozhukattai / Kolukattai is famous south Indian sweet snack. It is prepared during festive times as well. Using palm jaggery for this sweet recipe will make it very tasty and makes it healthy too. Combination of rice flour and palm jaggery gives energy too. Kids always love this sweet.

Required ingredients:

Rice flour – 1 cup
Water – 1 1/2 cup
Salt – as required
Jaggery – 3/4 cup
Cardamom powder – 1/4 tsp
Ghee – 2 tsp

Preparation Method:

  1. Take rice flour in a wide kadai.
  2. Add required salt and 1 1/2 cup water and mix well.
  3. Heat the kadai and mix well until all the water gets absorbed and rice flour is cooked.
  4. Once it is not sticky to the kadai, turn off the kadai.
  5. Let it cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Add ghee with flour and make small balls.
  7. In another deep vessel, add 3/4 cup water, grated jaggery and cardamom powder.
  8. Bring it to boiling, then add the rice balls.
  9. Mix and cook for 10 minutes.
  10. Turn off the heat and serve hot.

Tip – If you prefer to add sugar partly to make it more sweeter, you can add along with jaggery while boiling it.
