Herbal Kashayam – Successful Remedy for dry cough
Homemade herbal kashayam recipe for the lasting dry cough. Although many a times we get cough along with cold and flu, sometimes we get dry cough which is lasting for several days even after cold gets settled. This is such a horrible experience; anyone would want to get rid of it quickly.
Its from our own experience that cough syrup and other medications have failed to control the dry cough which made us exhausted. That’s when mom suggested this home remedy kashayam recipe as she had tried earlier and worked well.
Whenever allergic dry cough starts we start with this kasayam in the initial stage itself. Preparing this at home is easy. As we are adding palm jaggery to it, you wont feel hotness of the dry ginger and pepper much. It tastes good.
Here is the recipe…
Required ingredients for drycaugh Kashayam
Sukku / dry ginger powder – 1 tsp
Kuru milagu / Whole black pepper – 5 to 7
Thippili / long pepper – 3 to 5
Nattu vengayam / Small onion / Shallots – 5
Vasambu – 1/2 inch (optional)
Puthina / Mint leaves – handful
Karupatti / Palm jaggery – 1 tbsp
Water – 400 ml
Preparation method:
- Crush the (milagu) pepper and (thippili) long pepper with mortar and pestle.
- Crush the shallots and mint leaves too.
- Take water in the vessel for boiling.
- Add all the ingredients in the water and bring to boil.
- Continue boiling this in the low heat until the water reduced to half the quantity.
- Then turn off the flame.
- Filter the kasayam (boiled water) and drink it hot like tea.
- You can eat the cooked small onions which got filtered out.
Drink it twice a day and for 5 to 7 days for better results.
