Powerful Natural Home Remedies for Constipation

Welcome to the world of Natural home remedies. There are number of natural home remedies available in the form of food and lifestyle for constipation. In fact, natural remedies are there for many kind of ailments or problems we face in our day to day life.

Here, I give you collection of home remedies for constipation that can be followed at home when someone suffers from constipation. Though these are powerful home remedies, you must assure with your doctor for the root cause of the problem. If your problem is due to reasons such as food habits and lifestyle, then these remedies are for you.

1. Water

Drink plenty of water. In a day, you should drink at least 3 to 4 litres of water.

Drink warm to hot water after every meal which will help you for good digestion and solve constipation issue too.

2. Walking or Workout

In a day, minimum 30 minutes of walking or work out is good habit. This keep your body metabolism active and thus rest of the bodily functions are done in effective way.

3. Juices

There are some fruits which can really help very well during constipation. Among all fruits, chikoo (sapota), prune juice or soaked prunes juice can give you relief quickly.

Concentrated pomegranate juice can help solve the problem. If your constipation is severe, drinking the juices should be good choice instead of fruits as the fibers in it may make your stool even more harder.

4. Herbal Drinks

  • Mix 1 tsp of Nilaavarai powder and 1 tsp of kadukkai powder in hot water. As these two are good remedy for  Constipation, Flatulence and Stomach Pain.
  • Mix little ginger, few mint leaves, little lemon juice and little honey. Have in empty stomach daily.
  • Drink warm water with honey, even this helps as it acts as a laxative.
  • Take 1 tsp of flaxseed powder along with warm to hot water. Take it twice a day. This is one of the best ayurvedic based home remedy.
  • Isabgol with hot water can help relief from constipation or isabgol soaked in glass of water every night.
  • Including kalonji may help cure the problem.
  • Triphala choorana mixed with ghee. or warm water. You will see good result in 1 to 2 days. Continue taking it even after you are relieved from constipation. Reduce the quantity and take only once a day, preferably at night. It keeps your gut and stomach healthy.
  • Take 1 to 2 tsp of kadukkai (Harad) powder in the night along with hot water for couple of days. OR mix it with honey and have at night for immediate relief. Then start having 1 tsp coconut oil as first thing in the morning. This is one of the proven remedy for many.
  • Drinking jeera water helps in good digestion thus help for easy stool too. Boil 1 to 2 tsp cumin in a cup of water for 15 minutes and then drink the water warm.
  • Drink amla juice. it helps for constipation.
  • Chia seeds/ sabja 1 tsp with glass of water, jeera water or ajwain water. Anyone of these can help you too.

5. Oil, butter and Ghee

  • Just a tsp of ghee with 100ml of lukewarm water and consume ideally after meals. Or eat jaggery with ghee after meals.
  • You can drink even a spoonful of castor oil too.
  • Eating homemade butter as it is, every morning in empty stomach can help you overcome the problem.

6. Green vegetables and fruits

Add lots of soluble fiber rich food such as legumes, nuts, oats. Include green vegetables like carrot, beetroot, leafy vegetables and cucumbers and fruits like banana, papaya, chikoo in the regular diet.

Eat Oranges, peaches, plum or kiwi as first thing in the morning for quick recovery and continue the habit until you feel better. Soaked figs twice a day can help too.

Boiled pumpkin, ripe banana, boiled ladies finger, ripe papaya are friendly food in this situation.

Have banana as the last thing inthe evening. then dont eat anything at all. It worked for some people to overcome the constipation issue.

Eat raw raddish, onion, gulkhand. All of these works well to cure the constipation.

Celery stalks may help to solve the problem for you.

Include lots of bottle guard (also known as Dudhi or Suraikai) in your diet like Dudhi juice, sabzi, soup. This has helped people to overcome constipation.

7. External Remedies

Apply warm olive oil, castor oil, or coconut oil in rectum area as it cools down the irritation. You can even soak cotton balls in coconut oil or in any of these oils mentioned and place it in rectum area.

Apply castor oil in belly button, it helps to cool down your system and ease your stools.

8. What to avoid when you have constipation

Avoid milk, junk food and gastric dals like channa dal, toor dal.

Stop white things like maida, sugar, bread completely.

Avoid starchy foods, coffee and tea.

9. Reduce Stress

Try to be stress free as mental health is more important for good physical health. Stress can create various types of health issues ranging from diabetes, anxiety and even thyroid disorder. So, keep calm to come out of constipation too. Keep calm mind and get good night sleep.

10. Come out of fear

Do not hold back poo with the fear of pain, it is more dangerous. When there is severe constipation with hard stool, it may pain a lot. But holding back with such fear can do more damage to you. So, try to pass stool in the morning and evening. So that you won’t have hard stool the next day.

Squatting position as in indian toilets is the best position for passing stools. If you can use indian type of toilets. When not possible, use some height to prop up your legs to make it to squatting position.

11. Side effects of medication

If you are under medication for any reason, then you should consult with your doctor about the side effects of those medications. Some medications can trigger this kind of issues too. Identify if the cause is this, if so, look for alternatives,
