Lady finger fish also known as lady fish is called by different names in south indian languages. Ladyfish is called as “Kilangan,
Kilachi”(கிழங்கான்,கிளச்சி) in Tamil, “Poozhan”(പൂഴാണ്) or ” Noongal”(നൂങ്ങൾ), or “Cudeerah”(സുദീരഹ്) in Malayalam. This fish is known as best fish for kids. In siddha medicine, lady fish is called as pathiya meen in Tamil, meaning anyone can eat this fish, even if someone is suffering from any disease, this fish would not aggravate the diseases, rather it would help in healing. This fish has single bone which is easy to remove and the protein rich soft flesh is really yummy when we fry it crispy. Being a person from Thoothukudi, a coastal town, I love seafood a lot. The secret of crispy fish fry here is the masala mix and adding oil for mixing makes it more sticky. So, even if you do not marinate the fish for long time, this fry tastes good. This recipe works well with soft fishes like anchovies (Nethili meen).

Lady fish fry recipe

Required ingredients:

Oil for frying

For masala
=========

Oil 1 tsp
Lady fish  700g
Red chilli powder  1 tsp
Coriander powder  1 tsp
Salt  as required
Turmeric powder  1/4 tsp
Lemon juice 1
Channa dal powder  |  kadalai mavu  2 tsp
Corn flour |  Makkasola mavu  1 tsp



Preparation Method:

  • Clean and wash the fish well.
  • In a bowl, take red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt, turmeric powder, lemon juice, channa dal powder and corn flour.
  • Mix all by adding 1 tsp of oil.
  • Apply this masala on each fish piece in all sides.
  • The masala sticks to it very nicely.
  • Leave it for about 30 minutes.
  • Heat shallow fry pan and required oil to fry the fish.
  • Place the fish in hot oil and fry one side.
  • Then flip to the other side and fry.
  • After all sides are cooked, take it to a plate.
  • Pat dry the excess oil with kitchen towel.
  • Serve the fish fry hot along with your favorite dishes.
  • You can have this fish fry like fish fingers as well.

  11. Pat dry the excess oil with kitchen towel.
  12. Serve the fish fry hot along with your favorite dishes.
  13. You can have this fish fry like fish fingers as well.

Tip: This masala sticks to the fish very nicely. So, even if you fry it immediately after applying the masala, the fish fry will be crispy and tasty. But marinating the fish in this masala will allow it to absorb the masala and makes more tastier.
