Pidi kozhukattai- How to make sweet kozhukattai
Pidi kolukattai is a rice-based traditional Sweet. This is loved by everyone who loves light sweet. It can also be a good evening snack too.
This is one of the traditional festive sweet that is made during Kartikeya Deepam festival and Vinayaka Chaturthi.
Though it is the festival sweet, we make it home as and when we all like to have this as snack.
One of the easy sweets that can be made at home quickly. We can make spicy as well as sweet kolukattai. Here I show you how to make sweet pidi kozhukattai.
As we add jaggery to it, it turns out to be healthy sweet.

Required ingredients for Pidi kozhukattai:
Rice flour – 1 cup
Water – 1 1/2 cup
Jaggery – 1/ 2 cup (if you like it sweeter, make it 2/3 cup)
Grated coconut – 1/4 cup
Cardamom powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Dry ginger powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Ghee 1 teaspoon
Step-by-Step Pics with Preparation Method
- Heat Kadai, add jaggery and water. Boil to dissolve the jaggery and then filter it.
- Add the filtered jaggery water, grated coconut, cardamom powder and dry ginger powder and bring to boil.
- After the water is boiled, add rice flour little by little and keep stirring.
- Add ghee and keep stirring in low flame until the dough is not sticky to the kadai.
- Once it is done, transfer to bowl and allow it cool for 5 minutes. Mould the dough by fist and make shape. Do this for entire dough.
- Steam cook for 7 to 8 minutes and remove once it cooked and looks shiny.
- Serve hot.
Sweet Pidi kozhukattai – Recipe card
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice flour Packed idiyappam rice flour also works well for this
- 1/2 cup Jaggery Prefer darker color to get the nice jaggery coloured kolukattai.
- 1/4 cup Fresh grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
- 1/4 tsp Dry ginger powder
- 1 tsp Ghee
Instructions
Make dough
- Heat Kadai, add jaggery and water. Boil to dissolve the jaggery and then filter it.
- Add the filtered jaggery water, grated coconut, cardamom powder and dry ginger powder and bring to boil.
- After the water is boiled, add rice flour little by little and keep stirring.
- Add ghee and keep stirring in low flame until the dough is not sticky to the kadai. Once it is done, transfer to bowl and allow it cool for 5 minutes.
Mould by fist and steam cook
- Mould the dough by fist and make shape. Do this for entire dough.
- Keep in idly plate and Steam cook for 7 to 8 minutes.After it is cooked and looks shiny.
- Serve hot.

Notes
- Prefer darker color jaggery to get the nice jaggery coloured kolukattai. If you want it more sweeter, you can use 2/3 cup jaggery or adjust as per your taste.
- Water to rice flour ratio is 1:1.5 generally. But, it may vary slightly based on the rice flour. So, adjust the water to idiyappam like consistency.
