Plums are one of the widely available fruits. We can make variety of dishes like cake, jam, sauce, salads and even more.
I have first tasted the plums sweet and spiced condiment from one of my pakistani punjabi friend. Since then I love this variation from plums. The one I tasted was more sweeter side.
Now, I bring you here a super spiced plum chutney recipe with these plums. I tried it with spices to make this plum chutney little spicy and sweet. You can call it as either spiced plum sauce or plum chutney.

Plum Chutney
Ingredients
- 10 Plum fruits
- 2 ½ tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard
- Few Curry leaves
- 1 Lemon
- ¼ cup Jaggery You can use sugar too
- 2 tbsp Sugar Optional, You can use jaggery fully if you prefer
- 1 tsp Salt as required
Spices
- 1 tsp Cumin / Seeragam
- 1 tsp Fennel seeds / Perunjeeragam
- ½ tsp Karunjeeragam / black cumin/ nigella-
- 1/2 tsp Whole pepper / Milagu
- ½ tsp Fenugreek seeds / methi / Vendhayam
- 2 Red chilli
- 1 Kashmiri red chilli
- 1 inch Ginger
Instructions
- Add oil in the preheated kadai. Add mustard seeds and let it crackle.
- Add curry leaves and then add all ingredients given under spices and saute for 30 seconds.
- Add chopped plum fruit pieces and required salt.Saute until the plums are mashed.
- Now add jaggery, sugar and lemon juice and cook until jaggery dissolves.
- Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes.Transfer to mixer jar and grind coarsely based on the consistency you might prefer.
- Store in airtight container. Serve it with any type of tiffin or snack.

Notes:
There is no need to add water as we use fresh plums.
It has sweet, sour and spice taste. So its a great side dish for idli, dosa, chapathi, samosas or any savory tiffin which needs side dish.
You can always adjust the spice, sour and sweet as per your taste.
