While acute urticaria needs medical treatment from medical experts, the less severe urticaria can be managed at home with some of the home remedies.
Dermatology practitioners advise these home remedies. You can follow all or few of them depending on your symptoms control and convenience. Let us see the home remedies for urticaria here.
1. Identify the cause of allergy
While you manage your urticaria with the above mentioned home remedies, the most important and best cure would be identifying the allergens and removing them from your environment. So, identify which triggers your rashes and try to get rid of it.
2. Neem leaves and Indian nettle leaves paste
Both neem leaves and indian nettle leaves (kuppaimeni in tamil) are beneficial to skin and these two leaves can solve many of the skin problems. You must have known about neem leaves already. If you are not aware of kuppaimeni benefits, its hightime to know about it. It is such a good medicine for skin related issues.
Take handful of neem leaves and Indian nettle leaves. Grind them together to form a paste. Or you can take neem leaves powder and indian nettle leaves powder in 1:1 ratio. Add a tsp of turmeric powder and mix together. Apply this paste on your body and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes. Then wash with normal water without using any soaps or washes.
This works well if you have any kind skin allegies including rashes. Its soothing to the skin and you will feel relived from itching. The plus is, it will improve your skin complexion as well.
3. Olive oil
The simple one ingredient that could sooth your skin is olive oil.
Even the doctors advise to apply olive oil to manage urticaria at home. Apply olive oil on your body before going to bed in the night.
4. Coconut oil
While the olive oil takes the first place in managing skin rashes, coconut oil can also be used to sooth the dry skin.
5. Water
Drink water as required by your body depending on the climate you live. Keep yourself hydrated. This will keep your skin hydrated and avoids the possibility of getting dry skin in long run.
Wash your skin with water and pat dry with towel, it will sooth the dry irritating skin.
6. Icepack massage
Placing icepack on the affected areas will help you to sooth the skin and relieve you for sometime.
7. Soaps and washes
Your doctor may prescribe body washes and body creams, that are good for your skin, which will help to avoid the occurrence rashes.
The general rule is that avoid the soaps and washes that dry your skin. You should choose the soaps and washes without color and much fragrance. The less color and fragrance, the more it is for your skin.
Applying the body cream on damp skin will help retain moisture in the skin. This will also help you sooth itching skin.
8. Antihistamines
Taking antihistamines tablets can cure milder urticaria that comes there for short term. But, it is always advisable to consult a dermatologist practitioner before taking any medication.
