Strawberry Jam – How to make jam at home
Strawberry jam recipe with step-by-step pictures and video on how to make strawberry jam at home.
Strawberry is one of the fruits, that is most suitable for preparing jam. It is sweet and sour, that makes it perfect for jam.
Sweet jams are most liked, so we can add sugar to increase the sweetness as per our taste.
Adding lemon juice while preparing strawberry is must to keep the acid and pectin level balanced for jam setting.
While making jam using acidic fruits such as orange, pine apple, mango or berries, the acid and pectin will be correct for making jam. So, we don’t need to add lemon juice. To surprise you strawberry is actually not a berry but each strawberry is a multiple fruit combined into a cluster of tiny fruits.
Size of strawberry pieces should be as per your choice. If you like chunks in jam, cut a fruit into 4 pieces. If you like paste-like jam, cut the fruit finely and mash it well while cooking.
I have used brown sugar while making this strawberry jam. If you like pink colored jam, use white sugar. Adding brown sugar alters the jam color.
You can try variations using palm jaggery or sugar cane jaggery too.
From my experience, I can say that this home made strawberry jam stays good for 4 months in room-temperature. Note that we have not added any other preservatives. I purposely kept it in room-temperature and for longer days to see how it goes. It stayed well till last spoon.
