How to make Cardamom powder at Home

Cardamom is the most used spice for many sweets and gravies. Many sweet recipes call for cardamom powder. This gives unique flavor to all the dishes it is present.

It is difficult to make as and when required in very small quantity like 1 tsp. It is better if we make the powder at once in little quantity and store then use whenever required. But if directly grind it in mixer, it will not powdered well. You will see flakes of cardamom pods. So, I follow the below procedure to make fine powder of the cardamom.

Required ingredients:

Whole Cardamom – 1/2 cup
Sugar – 2 tsp

Preparation Method:

  1. Heat the kadai and the cardamom in it.
  2. Fry it in low flame until it turns to golden brown color.
  3. Transfer the fried cardamom to a plate and allow it cool.
  4. Transfer the cardamom to mixer jar and sugar. Then grind to powder.
  5. Grind well to make fine powder.
  6. Wait for 2 minutes before opening the jar as the fine powder will come out if you open immediately.
  7. Sieve it and take filtered fine powder. Store it in airtight glass container.
  8. Sieve residue comes around 1 tsp. Store it in airtight glass container and use it for the recipes which calls cardamom but not fine powder. Such as biryani or gravy recipes.
