Fish Curry with Coconut Paste

Fish curry is always a tasty and healthy choice for sea food lovers. Oily fishes are most preferred for making curry like this, around my place. Making curry by boiling the fish preserves most of the omega-3 fatty acids in the fish. I hope you will enjoy this recipe.

Required ingredients:

Cleaned fresh Fish – 500g
Shallots – 8
Onion – 1
Garlic – 1 pod
Tomato – 1
Tamarind – small lemon size
Ground nut oil – 3 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Salt – as required
Coconut paste – 2 tbsp

For seasoning:
Mustard – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 1/2 tsp
Curry leave – few strands

Preparation Method:

  1. Soak the tamarind in the water to extract the pulp.
  2. Chop the onions finely.
  3. Peel the garlic cloves.
  4. Heat the kadai and add 2tbsp oil.
  5. Add cut onions, garlic and salt. Fry well until onions turn transparent.
  6. Add tomatoes and fry till it gets mashed well.
  7. Add the turmeric, coriander, red chilli and cumin powders and mix.
  8. Add tamarind extract and bring to boil and cook for 10 minutes.
  9. Then add fish pieces and immerse in the gravy.
  10. After the fish is cooked, add the coconut paste and bring to boil.
  11. Just after bringing to boil, switch off the flame.
  12. Heat seasoning pan and add 1 tbsp oil.
  13. Add mustard, urad dal, 2 small onions finely chopped and curry leaves.

Serve hot with rice.
