Gonkura fish curry

Fish curry with Gonkura leaves

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup Oil
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 6 cloves Garlic
  • 2 Green chilli
  • 3 Red chilli
  • 1 Onion Roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp Salt as required
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 1 bunch Gonkura leaves
  • 1 tsp Mustard and urad dal
  • 2 twigs Curry leaves
  • 6 to 7 Shallots Or 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • ¾ tsp Red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp Coriander powder
  • ½ Lemon size Tamarind Extract pulp
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 500 g Fish any variety of your choice
  • 1 tbsp Choppd Coriander leaves to Garnish

Instructions
 

Prepare Gonkura paste

  • In a preheated kadai, add 2 tbsp oil and then cumin, coriander seeds, green chilli and red chillis. Fry for few seconds.
  • Add 1 onion chopped and required salt and saute until onion changes color.
  • Add tomoatoes add saute until its mashed
  • Add Gonkura leaves and saute for 5 minutes in low flame.
  • Take out and grind this mix to a fine paste.

Make Fish curry

  • Add 2 tbsp oil in a preheated kadai.
  • After it becomes hot, add mustard urad dal and let it crackle.
  • Add few curry leaves, finely chopped onion and required salt. Saute until onion changes color.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and saute until its smell goes off.
  • Add red chilli powder and coriander powder and saute for few seconds.
  • Add tamarind pulp and turmeric powder.
  • Now, add the gonkura masala mix paste.
  • Adjust the water consistency for gravy by adding required water.
  • Bring this mix to boil and cook until you see the oils are floating up.
  • Now, add the fish pieces and cook for 5 more minutes or until the fish is cooked.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Mix and serve along with rice.
